**About the Role**
We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our team, and focus
on managing our Backend engineers. As an integral member of the development
team, you will participate and manage a team in building and enhancing the
backend for our next generation financial services and benefits platform. Our
customers trust us with a lot: integrating seamlessly across financial
institutions, moving funds, tracking balances, helping with their healthcare
decisions, and keeping their data extremely secure. In order to take on this
mission we’re building our applications on modern web technologies around
Javascript/React/Node.js/Typescript, PostgreSQL, Amazon Lambdas and Kinesis
etc.
We are looking for an experienced leader who wants to create deep and
meaningful product engagement experiences for our increasing user base, and
are very comfortable with full-stack development. You will be responsible for
a lot, so you should feel comfortable in a fast paced, growing, and nimble
environment.
This position is based in the United States, however you will be working
closely with some Portugal based employees.
**Responsibilities**
* Coach and mentor multiple individual contributors
* Hold regular 1:1s with all your team members and oversee their work to make sure that it meets the objectives of our key deliverables
* Drive process improvements to optimize team's productivity, delivery quality and effectiveness
* Motivate, recruit and retain engineers
* Design and develop backend services and APIs
* Solve and mitigate backend technical problems with high complexity
* Collaborate cross functionality with Product Management, Web Operations, Engineering and other stakeholders to implement new features and enhance our backend experience and interfaces
* Conduct code reviews, and make valuable contributions to backend architecture
* Write and deliver technical design documents
**Skills & Experience**
* 5+ years of backend development experience
* 2+ years of experience in an engineering leadership role
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
* Extensive experience in web or distributed systems development
* Strong Typescript, Javascript, and Node.JS skills
* Strong relational database experience (Postgres, MySQL)
* Strong knowledge in software design and familiarity with design patterns
* Strong debugging skills and not afraid of getting hands dirty in other areas
* Proven experience on building backend services with high availability and scalability requirements
* Experience in leading teams through complex project delivery
* Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology
* Someone who isn't afraid of responsibility, a good sense of humor and a down-to-earth personality
