### About Understory
Understory is building a productivity and data management platform for
professional services workers—starting with investment analysts—to find,
manipulate, and deploy their private data across their workspace. We have
paying customers for a well-received product and an exciting roadmap.
### Product
Understory has built a PDF-to-Excel software engine for users to upload
financial documents and export a time series of every table in those documents
into Excel within minutes, providing auditability for each number back to its
original source. The product collapses the prerequisite manual effort for
financial analysis of public and private companies from hours (or days) into
minutes. This lowers the “time to analysis” on investment due diligence by
making fundamental data available immediately, with full granularity and no
upfront manual work.
We’re just starting there, and are looking to build out a platform that
enables analysts to deploy their private data within minutes throughout their
workstream.
### What we’re looking for
We’re seeking a full time Senior Software Engineer to join our small but fast-
paced team to ship high quality features. You’ll have direct ownership over
our product, design, APIs, and how we work. Along with the Engineering team,
you’ll also be working closely with the Co-CEO and Head of Product.

* Formulate solutions for challenging problems both independently and with the teams input, through a problem-solving mentality
* Approach the codebase critically, thinking about refactor ideas and improvements and when it makes sense to do them
* Enjoy working with modern tech stacks and tools that have good developer experiences and add torque to your productivity
* Relish tackling complex data problems
* Have frontend experience, but not required
* Previous startup experience and/or fintech experience is a big plus
### Requirements
* 3-10 years of software engineering experience
* Ability to work full-time in the US or Canada
* Basic database and RESTful API experience is a must
