As a Lead Backend Engineer, you’ll be responsible for building the services
that support our products. You’ll be part of a small, multi-disciplinary team
working to enable unique and seamless experiences for our end users.

* _As a Lead Backend Engineer you’ll:
*_

* Architect and develop serverless solutions that marry products within and across cloud platforms (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure) that deliver value to internal and external customers
* Lead client-oriented API design and development
* Work with design, product, and front end engineers to build APIs to support key functionality and use cases
* Actively participate to improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes
* Leverage your experience in early stage startups to make informed decisions that balance speed vs quality
* Hold yourself to high standard when working with production systems
* Work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Be effective and empathetic in communicating with co-workers so everyone makes better decisions
* Focus on designing architectures to solve core problems, not just because it is the latest trend
* Be cognizant of the human impacts of your work and strive to improve the lives of others

* _We’re looking for someone who has:
*_

* 7+ years relevant backend experience, preferably at an early stage startup
* Demonstrated growth of responsibility over time at one employer
* Technical ownership of key areas of the Product Stack
* Self-starter attitude, comfortable working independently and in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment; thrives in high-trust environments with minimal resources/backing
* Experience with Python, pandas, PostgreSQL, BigQuery
* Understanding of modern backend cloud infrastructure (e.g. serverless patterns)
* Experience with building distributed computing infrastructure flexible for both on-demand and batch processing
* Self-starter comfortable working independently and in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment

* _Experiences that are big pluses:
*_

* Applying dask and geospatial libraries at scale for user-facing applications
* Developing enterprise PaaS and SaaS products
* Have worked in early-stage startup environments
* Developed on Google Cloud Platform
* Comfort working in a distributed team environment
* Any frontend engineering experience (e.g React, Redux, deck.gl)

*Salary range for candidates depending upon level of experience and location: $170,000 - $200,000.
