management as well as extensive industry experience from big tech firms like

Machine Reading (in the IBM-Watson-Jeopardy era), MEMEX (analyzing dark web
data to help fight human trafficking), and the World Health Organization. With

Who We’re Looking For

* We’re looking for a seasoned system software engineer who is passionate about delivering an excellent software-as-a-service experience to our customers of the Cognitive AI platform that powers their mission critical healthcare workflows.
* We expect you to be a master of site reliability engineering practices who brings excellence to architecting, developing, deploying, and monitoring reliable and scalable web services operating on top of relational databases and various other data systems serving humans with UIs and machines with APIs.
* We want you to be the catalyst in smooth onboarding of new customer organizations as we scale out, keeping the users happy with the latest and greatest features, and cultivating streamlined devops process, on-call duties, and infrastructure to keep our rapid development iterations going.

Who You’ll Work With

* You will enable the lean yet mighty and nimble engineering team to rapidly and easily develop and ship all the exciting product features and enhancements to our clinician users.
* You will work closely with fellow software engineers across application frontend, backend, data, and ML, and also designers and domain expert clinicians who share the mission of delivering the power of Cognitive AI technology to our users to make best practice the easy practice.
* You will work closely with various customer healthcare IT and staff departments to seamlessly integrate our Cognitive AI software as a service into their workflows.
* Once a week in Palo Alto, CA, half of the team meets to work in person, but we are a remote-first company. Relocating is not required but recommended to stay close to the Pacific time zone. For compliance reasons, we are not employing outside the United States.

What You'll Do

* Oversee the health and performance of our production deployments.
* Automate monitoring and deployment of various services and systems.
* Build/improve supporting data pipelines as well as CI/CD pipelines, system services, and automations for testing, deploying, monitoring quality/performance.
* Drive infosec efforts to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the information systems and processes in compliance with our information security and privacy policies, including HIPAA and SOC 2.
* Build/maintain infrastructure and tooling that interact with external systems and services over standard and proprietary clinical/health data/protocols, such as FHIR, HL7, CDA, SMART.
* Co-develop core components of our Cognitive AI platform with ML/data engineers.
* Architect and re-architect more reliable, performant, and secure systems and services.

What You'll Bring

* 5+ years of experience in web service backend software development and/or site reliability engineering.
* Extensive experience in deploying and operating cloud services in production.
* Excellent communication skills with cross-functional team members as well as customer (health system) IT departments and cloud infra providers.
* Relentless documentation practices to set up and improve READMEs, runbooks, RCAs.
* Rigor in system performance and reliability monitoring and measurements.
* Theory and practice of Git and release engineering, GitOps/DevOps automation for CI/CD.
* Pragmatic understanding of underpinnings of various data-intensive systems, such as PostgreSQL relational database, blob storage, key-value store, search indexes, message queue, workflow/task management.
* Actionable knowledge in web service architecture, protocols, and tools (REST, HTTP, TCP/IP, OpenAPI, GraphQL, OAuth2).
* Fluent in Python, BASH, jq scripting, YAML, SQL, computer networking.

Bonus Points

* Strong data munging/wrangling/exploration/analysis skills.
* Good taste in data model and software API design.
* Expertise in information security and best practices.
* Familiarity with MLOps, data/ML engineering workloads and practices.
* Experience with Google Cloud and/or cloud native services via Kubernetes or Terraform.
* Experience with GitHub Actions, DataDog.
* Deep understanding of computer systems such as the Linux operating systems, containers, file systems, computer networking and security (TCP/IP, HTTP, SSH, TLS, PKI, JWT).
* Familiar with healthcare and biomedical domains.
* Full-stack engineering experience (familiar with React, Typescript).
