Job Description

Rythm is looking to hire a Senior Backend Developer. This role is 100% remote
(US or EU preferred). This role will report directly to our CTO and work
extensively with our Lead Backend Engineer and CTO. The salary range for this
position is between $120k-150k/y to start.

This role will help us pursue our dream of revolutionizing how everyone
listens to music online. You can take charge of building the backend that
powers a service used by millions of people on day 1.

If you’re applying for this role you should be obsessed with craft and be
willing to work hard to produce a highly-polished experience for our users.

For the first year this role will look a lot like:

* Helping support the CTO with tech decisions
* Developing backend systems that need to scale for millions of users on launch
* Helping the frontend/fullstack teams implement backend systems into the frontend of our product

We currently use the following techonlogies: React, Node, TypeScript, Rust,
DynamoDB, AWS (Lambda, SQS, S3) and Cloudflare R2 & Workers

The day-to-day of a Senior Backend Developer here at Rythm would look a lot
like this:

As a company, there’s a lot of challenges ahead of us (besides technical
ones). We can’t talk about all of them here, but one of the biggest we’ll face
is that we’ve previously had a large product in the market and now we’ll be
relaunching and rebuilding our user base with a slightly different product.
This means we’ll need to win back our old users, acquire new users, and
develop customer loyalty again.

We’re telling you this because we want you to understand what we’ll be focused
on: building an amazing user experience that people love, becoming a product
they use in their daily lives. To achieve this, we need to build an efficient
team that understands our users and isn’t afraid to constantly iterate and run
tests.

We want it to be fun to work here, but at our core we are a user-driven and
design-driven company. Research, data, and testing drive our product - with
the occasional decision made by gut feeling. This is a collaborative
environment, where people from all teams will have a voice in the product.

Here are some of the requirements you should meet to be a good fit for this
role:

* 2+ years of experience with Node.js
* 2+ years of experience with TypeScript
* 3+ years of experience as a backend developer
* 2+ years of epxerience working with NoSQL databases
* 2+ years of experience with AWS/similar serverless systems
* Notable B2C development experience (1+ years)
* Notable experience working in highly-collaborative teams
* Passion for building products that are enjoyable and easy to use
* (Bonus points) Experience working with quality assurance teams
* (Bonus points) Experience designing social platforms
* (Bonus points) Experience designing audio/video platforms
* (Bonus points) Experience with Rust

And if you do wind up being hired, we want to make sure you feel comfortable
here, so we offer a few benefits to start: like stock options, unlimited sick
and vacation days, primarily async communication, and an annual
productivity/wellness budget.

We want to offer the full suite of benefits as soon as possible, but as an
early-stage startup we’re a bit limited in what we can offer initially. As we
scale our product and team, we will increase salaries, improve our benefits,
and figure out how we better support our team members.

TLDR; we’re looking for an experienced backend developer who loves building
social products to come join us and make our new product a reality. We’re
committed to our mission and we’d like you along for the ride.

This role will face a lot of unique and interesting tech challenges and give
you an opportunity to step into an early and fast-growing team. While this is
all exciting, we also know this role isn’t for everyone. If you do think this
role is a good fit for you, we’re looking forward to talking to you.
