**Background:**
MiraDX is a biotechnology research company currently focused on personalized
cancer therapies. We're looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer to join our
software engineering team.
As a Senior Back-End Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting,
developing, and maintaining our web application. It's currently a full-stack
Javascript application (React, Typescript, Next.js) but we will be
transitioning the back-end to Ruby on Rails. You will collaborate regularly
with other teams to design and implement back-end solutions that are flexible,
performant, and intuitive. This role reports directly to the VP of
Engineering.
**Schedule:**
The engineering team is fully remote, and you will need to have a few hours
overlap with 9:00AM-5:00PM Pacific Time. There are two mandatory, teamwide
meetings on Wednesday from 9:00AM-11:00AM Pacific Time.
**Responsibilities:**
This job requires a true self-starter. You will be expected to do requirements
gathering, translate those requirements into technical work, and then
implement that work on your own. Many things in the existing codebase need to
be rewritten / productionized so there is a massive opportunity for shaping
the technical direction of the back-end architecture.
* Architect, develop, and maintain the back-end of our web application following best practices and coding standards
* Collaborate with other team members, including Design, Business Development, Internal Lab Technicians, and Front-End Engineering
* Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
* Debug and troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions
* Actively contribute to back-end technical discussions
**Qualifications:**
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in back-end web development
* Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices, especially as it relates to API design and workflow automation
* Strong understanding of software development best practices such as version control, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
**Preferred Qualifications:**
* Experience with AWS
* Experience with optimizing system performance and scalability to support growing user base and workload
Though the back-end is currently written in Javascript and we will be
transitioning to Ruby on Rails, we are open to senior engineers with
programming experience in other languages and/or frameworks.

**Notes:**
* We're looking for a full-time employee, but this will begin as a 6-week contract-to-hire position.
* We will be upfront about expectations during this period, and have regularly scheduled check-ins
* An annual salary will be agreed upon upfront, and the hourly rate for the 6 weeks will be based off that annual salary.
