Treasury launched a year ago, and in that time has introduced more than 13,000
people to investing (who together have invested more than $40 million
dollars!).
Our goal is to unlock a trillion dollars of wealth for new investors. This is
more than just a big number. For investors it means the ability to retire when
they want to, leave a job they hate, pay for their kid’s education, or even
just open their bank account without having a panic attack.
Now we’re building our founding team to take our product from successful MVP
to robust platform, starting with supporting more creators and improving our
investing infrastructure.
We’re backed by top investors including Bloomberg Beta, Betterment founder Jon
Stein, Zynga founder Mark Pincus, and [Ancestry.com](http://ancestry.com/) CEO
and creator of Facebook marketplace Deb Liu.
We value simple code, product iteration, and observability. We use Elixir,
Phoenix, LiveView for our webapp, backed by Postgres. We deploy daily to
production, running new containers in GCP about five minutes from commit.
**About the role:**
We’re looking for a Product Engineer to join the Treasury founding team. You
will be one of the first employees at Treasury and our first full-time
engineering hire. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with Treasury’s
two co-founders to shape every aspect of our product. You don’t want to just
close Linear issues — you’ll bring your sense of ownership, empathy for our
customers, and curiosity for more than just engineering to the table.
We’d prefer for you to be based in New York City and are open to helping you
relocate.
As a Product Engineer at Treasury, you’ll:
* Touch every part of our product, including community, brokerage, and creator tools
* Be responsible for designing and shipping complete features, including database tables, external API integrations, internal services, and frontend components (LiveView, Tailwind)
* Evaluate tradeoffs between product iteration speed and technical debt
* Talk to users and think of cool, creative ideas to solve their problems
* Periodically troubleshoot customer service tickets (we’re a small team and so everyone pitches in here)
**Your Qualifications & Qualities:**
* 5 years minimum engineering experience shipping things in a production environment or you’ve owned a production product end-to-end (this is more important than time in the role and can be in a larger organization or solo)
* You’ve worked in a language such as Elixir, Ruby, Python, or Node (some prior Elixir experience is advantageous but not a requirement)
* You care about product analytics (“Of course I wouldn’t ship this without the events for a funnel”)
* You have empathy for new investors and the problems they face getting started
* You have a sense of urgency and are nimble – we go to production safely and with customer value but not perfectly
* You’re comfortable with the unknown & tradeoffs — we’re an early stage company so there’s much we’re still discovering. As a result of this, everyone on the team will have real ownership over our success
For this role, the salary range is $90,000 - $180,000 with up to 1.5% equity.

**Here are some of the projects you might work on in your first 6 months:**
* We have four different investment order flows from different parts of the Treasury product which we’d like to unify using what we’ve learned about what gets our customers to invest most effectively
* Increase the reliability & resilience of our monoservice as we build new products and iterate on existing ones. This includes thoughtful testing strategies, observability, and metrics
* Partner with our designer to build a creator facing dashboard so creators can see the impact their education is having on their customers
* Integrate additional brokerages so more people can invest using Treasury
* Build notifications for the Treasury community product so people can see when other people are engaging
