Job Description

### About Us

Orca is revolutionizing how perishable products are shipped. With our
technology platform, companies seamlessly plug into a load optimized network
of third-party assets and services, ensuring their products are shipped
efficiently while staying fresh.

We’re a mission-driven company that began with the goal of eliminating waste
in perishable shipping. We've received venture capital investment and backing
from UChicago, and we recently joined the Techstars Chicago Fall 2023 cohort.
We’ve previously built and sold companies and worked in private equity,
venture capital, and various rideshare and freight tech startups.

As Lead Software Engineer, you will be full-time employee #3. We’ve
bootstrapped to low-tech partnerships, and we need tech platforms to scale our
operations. As our company grows, you will spearhead real products used by
millions of people and have a meaningful impact on food waste and
accessibility.

### Responsibilities

* Lead the development of Orca's technology, including backend Shopify integration, inventory management system, and user interface.
* Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of Orca's technology, implementing best practices and industry standards.
* Work closely with Orca’s co-founders to develop and execute a technical roadmap for Orca’s technology infrastructure, aligning it with the company’s goals and vision.
* Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and technology partners, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery of high-quality solutions.
* Mentor and guide junior developers as the company scales, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.

### Qualifications

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
* 4+ years of experience as a full-stack developer, with a strong track record of successfully delivering complex web and native apps and platforms using technologies like MongoDB, React, Node.js, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience in building and deploying scalable and secure applications in the cloud.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments with evolving requirements and priorities.
* Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Self-driven and proactive with a strong sense of ownership over projects and tasks.
* Passion for sustainability, food waste reduction, and making a positive impact in the world through technology-driven solutions.
