**Job Description**
We’re on the lookout for a Lead Platform Engineer who embodies a "founding"
engineer profile able to wear many hats. The primary duty is to maintain and
expand our hub management platform, which enables Stel to ingest real-time
data from our fleet of IoT devices and provides customers with robust
management tools. The role requires strong backend expertise, cloud
infrastructure experience, and the ability to build internal tools to support
business operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Report directly to the CEO and to own the Stel Platform's technology strategy and product.
* Maintain & Enhance Core Platform: Own and develop the core RESTful API service and supporting AWS Lambda functions. Manage AWS infrastructure, including EC2, RDS, Lambda, AWS IoTCore, SQS, VPC, Route53, Cognito. Maintain and improve multiple AWS accounts across different environments.
* Develop & Maintain Internal Tooling: Build tools and automations to support operations, invoicing, hardware upgrades, and support workflows as needed. Assist in data access and visualization tools (e.g., Metabase a plus).
* Prototype & Experiment: Build proof of concepts (POCs) for new customer and partner opportunities.
* Security & Compliance (Preferred but Not Required): Assist with security questionnaires and audits related to HIPAA and healthcare compliance.
* Support integration with healthcare systems (HL7 a plus).
**Key Skills & Experience:**
* Strong experience with modern backend architectures and REST APIs.
* Experience managing AWS services (EC2, RDS, Lambda, VPC, SQS, Route53, Cognito, IoTCore, S3, EC2, DynamoDB, IAM Policies, ECS, Dockerize, GuardDuty).
* Comfortable working in Linux/Ubuntu environments. Experience configuring and maintaining Nginx.
* Understanding of networking fundamentals, particularly in cloud environments.
* Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Python/Django a plus).
* Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions a plus). Experience with Terraform and Docker for designing robust CI/CD pipelines.
* Frontend Development: Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks (React a plus).
* Business Intelligence & Tooling: Experience with Metabase or similar data visualization tools.
* Healthcare & Compliance: Understanding of HIPAA, HL7, or experience with security audits in a regulated industry. Familiarity with EHR/Interface Engines like MirthConnect, CloverLeaf, Intersystems, Bridges, and EPIC Showroom/API connects, enhancing our ability to integrate seamlessly with healthcare systems.
**Ideal Candidate Profile:**
* Proven track record as an early-stage startup engineer or in a similar leadership role, with a passion for building and scaling innovative technology solutions in a fast-paced Startup environment.
* Exceptional problem-solving skills, with an innate ability to navigate complex technical and organizational challenges.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex concepts into clear, understandable terms.
* Understands good security + privacy standards/design.
* Experience in the HealthTech or IoT space is a plus
* Background in HealthIT would be a plus but is not required. Understanding HealthTech Architecture terms and standards is a strong preference, but can be taught.
