Overview:
Geneial is seeking a driven and motivated Backend Engineer (AWS) to join our growing startup team. You will have the opportunity to contribute to solving some of the biggest problems in genetic medicine: data siloing and access to diverse kinds of biomedical data. We are looking for someone with a demonstrated passion for back end development and solid experience with AWS, Python, devops, data engineering, and CI workflows. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the backend architecture of our applications (APIs and databases), ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. You will work closely with our development team to create innovative solutions that meet the needs of our clients building upon an existing Python/AWS tech stack.

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using AWS technologies.
Document code, products, and issues
Work with the engineering and bioinformatics teams to meet deliverables
Collaborate with front-end developers and other team members to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and monitoring.
Optimize application performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Develop and manage databases, ensuring data integrity and security.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application performance, security, and reliability.
Stay up-to-date with the latest AWS services and technologies, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with best practices for security, performance, and scalability.
Participate in planning, demos and daily standup activities
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
8+ yrs proven experience as a Backend Engineer with a strong focus on AWS services.
In-depth knowledge of AWS services and best practices, including but not limited to EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, DynamoDB, and CloudFormation.
Proficiency in Python and other backend programming languages such as Java, Node.js, or Go.
Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development.
Experience with database management, both SQL and NoSQL.
Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Developer certification.
Experience with serverless architectures and microservices.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
Experience with automated testing frameworks and methodologies.
Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
Healthcare industry experience preferred.
Prior startup experience preferred.
