### Pom Health's vision is to redesign the healthcare system around food.
We're starting by building a **nutrition care platform that leverages content,
AI, and dietitian services** to bring the _joys of food_ into patient care.
### Why?
**Healthcare is failing when it comes to diet-related chronic conditions**
There are 130M+ Americans in the US who are managing a chronic condition
related to diet (diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, autoimmune, etc.).
These diet-related chronic conditions represent 85% of our direct healthcare
spend. Clearly we’re facing a nutrition crisis in this country as our
healthcare system continues to ride a hamster wheel of growing spend and
growing costs.
* 75% of American adults are overweight or are obese
* 75% of American adults have some heart-related condition
* 50% of American adults have diabetes or prediabetes
* 8% of American adults have an autoimmune condition (IBD, Hashimoto’s, Crohn’s, etc.)
### About the Role
We’re looking for an engineer who is passionate about the potential patient
impact that Pom can have. What we’re doing is complex, both in terms of the
strategy and the product/tech that will enable the business. It will not be
easy, but we think we have a massive opportunity in front of us to drive
patient impact and business value!
As our Founding Engineer, you'll help us define how we should use software to
serve our biggest user needs, whether external or internal, and build our
platform from 0-1. You’ll be the expert on our codebase and be an integral
piece in defining the roadmap, scoping the right projects, and ultimately
driving Pom’s success.
### We get excited if you:
* Are mission-oriented and passionate about increasing the role of food and nutrition in the US healthcare system
* Want to help build a high-performance, patient-centric, and team-first culture
* Have 4+ years of software engineering experience with expertise in backend development and at least some experience in frontend development. Data engineering experience is a bonus!
* Are product-minded and user-oriented
* Are excited about being a part of Pom’s 0-1 and can thrive in periods of ambiguity
* Are based in the NYC metro area
### If you join, you will:
* **Join a mission-oriented team** as one of Pom’s first employees.
* **Collaborate closely with the rest of the founding team** ([Misha](https://www.linkedin.com/in/mishanasrollahzadeh/), [Wilfred](https://www.linkedin.com/in/wilfred-tso/), [Lourdes](https://www.linkedin.com/in/lourdes-castro-rd/)) to define our product roadmap and scale our care model to a broader patient population.
* **Lead technical projects.** Define our technical approach to problems, write tech design docs, scope out LOE and timelines, develop and launch products, and ensure reliability of products.
* **Work on products that impact patient’s day-to-day**. The average person makes 227 decisions related to food a day. We have an opportunity to make every one of those decisions a bit easier and healthier.
