### Founding Story
Government permitting is personal for us. [Ben
Cohen](https://www.notion.so/Ben-
Cohen-2adc2cb4980b4ab1a7faea758b86833e?pvs=21), Co-founder and CTO, studied
Computer Science at Princeton and developed software for Amazon and Uber, but
he grew up helping his Dad — a general contractor — to apply for hundreds of
permits. Ben’s experiences navigating clunky, outdated government websites
inspired him to work on building better solutions for the millions of
tradespeople whose livelihoods depend on getting permits fast.
[Troy LeCaire](https://www.linkedin.com/in/troylecaire/), Co-founder and CEO,
was employee #1 at RippleMatch, a B2B SaaS company, helping it grow from
0-$10M in annual revenue and achieving a $200m+ valuation as Chief of Staff
over 7 years. Before RippleMatch, he studied Government at Cornell and worked
in politics for two senators from his home state of Wisconsin. He believes
passionately in the potential for technology to help government work more
effectively for citizens everywhere.
### Who we’re looking for
Our first external hire — a founding Engineer to help make our product vision
a reality and define our company culture. This position reports to Ben Cohen,
Co-founder and CTO and will frequently collaborate with Troy LeCaire, Co-
founder and CEO.
### Location
The founders are both located in New York, NY and work in person 1-2 days per
week. We prefer candidates in NYC but are open to remote candidates (EST
preferred).
### What you’ll do
* Work directly with GovWell’s founders to develop a world-class SaaS app from scratch to help 80,000+ local governments (cities and counties) to efficiently process building permit applications from contractors, builders, and home owners
* Help applicants (contractors, builders, and homeowners) to get construction projects done faster and more easily with modern software
* Work autonomously to solve a variety of challenging technical problems quickly and with zero bureaucracy
* Help define our company culture as an exciting place to work and grow
* Learn how to build a company from zero to one (great if you want to be a founder someday!)
### Who you are
* An experienced software engineer with 3+ years of full-stack development experience
* Product-oriented thinker who enjoys talking to users and ensuring their needs are served well by every feature
* Autonomous worker who needs little direction and prefers to independently generate new ideas and unblock yourself
* A fast learner who enjoys frequent new challenges and strives to constantly improve
* An inspiring colleague who motivates those around them by setting a high standard for themselves and others
* Excited to build software for local government, an industry that has been neglected by modern SaaS
