**About the Role**
Okera is looking for an Engineering Manager to provide leadership and
technical mentorship for our engineering team. In this role, you will support
the team by leaning into leadership and helping to eliminating roadblocks and
give individual contributors autonomy and ownership. Our team is rapidly
growing, and being able to scale and hire exceptional talent is also key for
this role. By working closely with the Okera People Team you will help drive
the strategy to expand the skills and capabilities of the team through hiring.
An ideal candidate will also be familiar with Javascript, and React, and will
drive the team to achieve target milestones and technical goals. This role
reports directly to the CEO.
**Role and Responsibilities:**
* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Experience and passion to build a team and drive culture among the Engineering team
* Deliver business impact by working with partners to come up with success metrics and execute on concrete action plans.
* Establish the team vision and roadmap by assessing the direction of the company and the needs of customer teams. You will align and translate this into short team tactical plans and a longer-term vision.
* Hire and develop engineering talent.
* Collaborate with our CEO and communicate the status of the roadmap with external teams
* Setting shared goals across teams to collectively deliver results efficiently.
* Dive deep and solve challenging problems in both technical and cultural areas of working at a startup.
* Collaborate with multi-functional teams, working with other specialists to break down complex ideas and drive features from start to finish.
* Drive technical investments from the early exploration of ideas to delivering integral parts of our stack, balancing short-term goals with long-term architectural vision.
* Mentor the team and help them grow as engineers across many dimensions. **Basic Qualifications:**
* 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams is REQUIRED.
* 5+ years of relevant engineering experience working on enterprise products is REQUIRED.
* Strong leadership skills but also deeply technical -- this is a sophisticated workspace. You'll need to have a strong understanding of technical architecture, system design, and problem solving acuity on sophisticated technical challenges
* Mentor developers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers
* Provide technical input on planning, design, and requirements-gathering process for features that are implemented
* Participate in team code review with fellow engineers, with a keen eye towards correctness, style, and web app development.
* You have hands-on experience utilizing JavaScript. **Preferred Qualifications:**
* Hands on experience working within large data platforms.
* You have hands-on experience utilizing React or Redux.
* You have experience with CSS in large-scale web app development.
