As a founding member of Kanary, you'll have the opportunity to imagine and
build products that make a real difference in people's safety, security, and
privacy. We need new tools and services to protect ourselves and our loved
ones from a rapidly changing landscape of threats online and in the real
world. Kanary scans the internet, removes listings, and makes sure personal

**Location**
We're remote with a hub in Seattle. Being a remote team has been and will be
an advantage as we hire exceptional people and tackle more complex global
privacy challenges. We coordinate quarterly trips and recognize the benefit of
IRL collaboration.
**Team**
We are a small, highly cross-functional team. You'll be a core part of shaping
our culture and mission. We collaborate, move quickly, try not to break
things, and help each other do our best work. We don't take ourselves too
seriously and trust each other to manage our time effectively.

**Backend Engineering Lead**
LLMs can help protect our privacy online. We don't have to put up with spam.

We’re a team of 5 building a new way for individuals to protect their
information. We’re backed by top pre-seed VCs like
[YC](https://www.ycombinator.com/) and [2048](https://www.2048.vc/) and
privacy leaders like [Mozilla](https://www.mozilla.org/), but 2 years since
our first raise, we’re funded by our customers.
Titles at our stage don’t matter much. We’re looking for a strong software
engineer to help grow the product and the team as we respond to rapid customer
growth. The most challenging work at Kanary is backend development. You’ll own
projects like:
* experiment with novel approaches for anonymously traversing the web (captcha solving, browser fingerprinting, residential IPs). Embrace the cat and mouse game of working against the bad guys.
* performance engineering - identify and implement optimizations across application code (API, serializers, data models), database and deployment configuration. We use python and django on our backend.
* minimize QA time and code repetition by working with generative models and extending our templating language using Go.
Salary estimate: $150k + generous equity (3%)
Compensation depends on experience and potential but we aim to be fair and
