Vetspire is a veterinary medical records and practice management platform.
We’re a startup reimagining the way that veterinarians use technology,
impacting every aspect of patient care from the exam room to managing client
communications and clinical analytics. As part of our team, you’ll be
designing the future of what veterinary technology should and can be, and
you’ll be joining a founding team out of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence
Laboratory building a research platform for evidence-based veterinary
medicine.
**The Role:**
Vetspire is divided into three cross functional teams - Clinical, Data &
Insights and Platform. This opening is for the Tech Lead position in the
Clinical team. The Clinical team focuses on the day-to-day user-facing
experience of the Vetspire web app. Responsible for cutting-edge features in
veterinary patient care; wants to delight users and give them a reason to
onboard with Vetspire.
This is a hands-on role, with additional focus on our architecture, processes
and communication with non-technical stakeholders - you can expect ~70% of
your time to be hands-on programming, pairing and technical leadership and the
remaining ~30% on communication, improving our processes and cross-team
collaboration.
The team operates fully remotely, however we have our main office in Austin,
TX and being close would mean more opportunities to see how clinics use
Vetspire.
This role reports to Head of Engineering.
**Technologies:**
Our backend is a GraphQL Phoenix/Absinthe application written in Elixir, our
front end is a React SPA using the Apollo GraphQL framework, our primary
database is PostgreSQL, and it all runs on Google Cloud via Kubernetes.
**Responsibilities:**
* Lead the ongoing software development work improving the Vetspire platform
* Take a lead on running the agile development process, leveraging the help of the Head of Engineering
* Be the architecture expert, lead the decision-making process in relation to the platform evolution
* Champion culture of good security, coding standards, architecture patterns, resiliency, and documentation practices
* Proactively, step-by-step take the development team to the next level in quality of collaboration and comfort of work
* Coordinate and communicate effectively across teams
* Own the responsibility for team delivery
* Establish close relationships with Product team, helping to plan and rationalize product strategy and upcoming roadmap planning
**Experience:**
* 5 years or demonstrable proficiency in technical expertise with Elixir & React
* Experience leading large software initiatives across teams
* Exceptional documentation and written communication skills
* Proven ability to work in an independent manner with minimal oversight, and to work across teams and partner well with people with diverse professional backgrounds
