We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Core Services team. This
team is responsible for the robust and scalable solutions that power internal
operations at UrbanStems. Our ideal candidate will be at ease working cross
functionally with multiple teams throughout the organization, and will sit on
a small but dynamic engineering team that allows you to actively see the
impact of your work each day.
Responsibilities
* Manage remote-first team of on-shore and off-shore engineers solving back-of-house ecommerce problems around perishable SCM, finance, fulfillment, and distribution
* Support the hiring, learning, growth, and career development of the engineering team
* Work closely with product team to ensure projects are well defined, tracked, and delivered appropriately
* Ensure that systems and processes are compliant with data privacy, security, and other regulatory requirements
* Ensure reliability, performance, and fault tolerance of solutions produced by the team
* Promote the principle of observability and the coverage of all deployed solutions by monitoring and alerting tools
* Contribute quality code
* Continually refine and enforce code quality, engineering standards, and testing solutions
* Ensure the engineering team provides reliable value to UrbanStems employees and customers
* Support the UrbanStems organization to remove any technology blockers related to the engineering team portfolio
Qualifications
* At least 5 years experience in software engineering and minimum of 2 years of people management experience with an engineering team
* Demonstrable experience hiring and retaining top engineering talent
* Understanding of enterprise systems (ERP, OMS, WMS) and related business processes.
* Prior experience building and implementing engineering policy and process, including but not limited to code quality and code ownership
* Solid ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization and across various functional areas
* Provable track record of delivering on hard engineering problems with a team
* Must be a strategic self starter with strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
* Commercial application experience in JS, Typescript,Terraform, SQL and NoSQL database technologies
* Experience in building distributed systems for scale and deploying them in the cloud (AWS services such as Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, and Kinesis or equivalents is a plus) **
