##### Job Description :

The USDA/NIFA AI institute for Next Generation Food Systems (AIFS) is a
partnership of 6 organizations (UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Cornell, UIUC, UC ANR,
USDA) with a mission to empower the next generation with sustainable
production, processing, and distribution of nutritious food through
transformative AI technologies. Headquartered in Davis, CA, it is one of the
seven national institutes funded by NSF and USDA for 5 years in 6 thematic
areas of strategic importance to the nation, it involves a team of
approximately 50 faculty and other professionals working on research,
education and outreach programs, across a nationwide network of partners and
local offices. AIFS has 2 foundational cross-cutting (AI and Socioeconomics)
and 4 research (molecular breeding, agricultural production, food production
and distribution, nutrition) clusters. AIFS is in its 2nd year of the USDA-
NIFA grant.

**Job Summary**

Under the direction of the AIFS Associate Director, the successful candidate
will work closely with the AIFS research activities involved with building a
web portal to collect, organize, label, display and provide for download,
machine learning models and data, and other related elements for research.
Assist existing staff with more technical details related to maintaining a
Wordpress based website.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**

* Sit at computer and view monitor/display screen for extended periods of time.
* Move/lift boxes weighing approximately 30 lbs.
* Move tables and chairs for events or catering and make deliveries across campus.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**

* Up to five-year contract position, renewed annually. Position may be extended or converted to career depending on funding.
* Work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet operational needs.
* Possible travel across campus utilizing personal vehicle. Out of state travel may be required as Institute advances.
* Limited vacation during events and peak periods.
* Work in an area where there is constant traffic and noise from office machines, telephones, and conversations.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

**Minimum Education/Experience:**

* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, with demonstrable experience with building Python based web applications, interfacing with MySQL and Linux hosts.
* Experience with developing and managing LAMP based server/software environment solutions.
* HTML5, CSS, Javascript experience

**Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :**

* Excellent writing and technical media design and communications skills for diverse audiences and scientific or public policy topics.
* Advanced skills with MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and technology systems: word processing ( MS Word and others), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, presentation slide development (MS PowerPoint), spreadsheet (MS Excel and others), database (MS Access), CMS software (Wordpress), cloud solutions (Google Drive, Box, Dropbox),calendaring for teams, AV equipment, social media platforms, etc.
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective positive and cooperative relationships with a diverse group of internal/external stakeholders in higher education, campus and broader scientific community.
* Ability to travel periodically to meetings and workshops.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**

**Preferred Education/Experience:**

* 2+ years experience in similar field.
* Experience with creating a public facing web portal.
* Experience developing visually appealing graphical representations of data.
* Experience working as part of a team to receive/give direction and share knowledge with colleagues in a collegial atmosphere.
* Machine learning project experience
* Experience with university-based research concepts, principles, and conduct of research.

**Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :**

* Web portal programming, authentication schemes, API’s.
* Familiarity with project management software/tools.
* Interpersonal communication skills.
* Knowledge of campus policies and procedures to interpret inquiries and requests to formulate appropriate action or response.
