Over the past 3 years, we have gradually evolved from a small tight-knit team
conducting research on the online landscape, discourse and trust modeling, and
incentive-compatible behavioral mechanism design, to full-fledged product
development and go-to-market teams preparing to open up Sembly to the world.
We're currently in the early beta stage, doing the product-market-fit dance by
piloting the platform with diverse initial user groups, getting feedback and
insights, and rapidly learning and iterating.
As you can imagine, in order to create the changes we want to see, we need to
manage the tension between values/idealism and consumer usability in the
platform, and between safeguarding trust and inclusivity/openness, to ensure
that the platform is accessible and usable to broad, diverse groups of web
citizens, from thought leaders to students, from professionals to academics to
activists, across different demographics.
To this end, we're looking for someone who has a strong intuition for product,
an eye and taste for highly-usable social consumer platforms, with a strong
user empathy, and a strong capacity for nuanced thinking and thoughtfully
balancing different tensions in the product. The person ideally will be able
to not only work well with different roles in the product development team --
junior PMs, designers, software engineers -- but also lead, inspire creative
thinking, and help the team see more clearly what is important to our users,
however seemingly insignificant (but they often matter).
We prefer these qualifications, but feel free to apply even if you don't fit
all of these points!
* A bachelor degree in any major with a rigorous emphasis on design, communication, or critical thinking
* Experience working with a product development team (designers, software engineers) on high-quality consumer products
* Familiarity with UI, UX design, copywriting, and product positioning and communication
* A strong intuition, and a good eye and taste for highly-usable web or mobile products
* A strong intuition for holistic user needs, and a strong sense of user empathy from behavioral, motivational, emotional, and cognitive perspectives
* A passion for solving societal issues, e.g. enabling productive discourse, depolarization, etc.
* Familiarity with design thinking and user research process
* Familiarity with product metrics and ways to measure success of the product (including qualitative approaches)
We are willing to be flexible and happy to accommodate the right candidate,
and open to full-time / part-time, on-site / remote work! Please introduce
yourself!
