### About the job
You will be the company's first full-time hire and work side by side with the
founder and a small team of contractors responsible for the development and
maintenance of key open-source frameworks in our stack. You will build in
Swift with Vapor and MongoKitten, deploy and maintain our server code with GCP
and managed Kubernetes, and evolve our Python web-scraping microservices. You
will take the lead in architecting our backend codebase for performance,
stability, and scalability.
### Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and manage microservices for our GCP serverless instance
* Build new features with scalable services capable of supporting a large-scale social network
* Collaborate with FE engineers to deliver APIs for user-facing features
* Monitor, maintain, and improve server-side performance
* Write unit tests to prevent bugs and regressions
* Communicate frequently, transparently, and proactively to define scope, estimate work, and devise risk and change management strategies
* Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives, to ensure project success and team alignment
* Document patterns, processes, and procedures to build a solid knowledge base to aid new developer onboarding
### Qualifications
* 5+ years backend development
* 1+ years experience with server-side Swift
* Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design principles
* Experience building RESTful APIs in collaboration with front end developers
* Familiarity with building and managing serverless applications with GCP or AWS
* Experience building modular, flexible architectures
* Must be authorized to work in the United States. At this time we are unable to transfer or sponsor visas
### Preferred
* Experience with NoSQL, MongoDB, Python, HTML
* Experience in a high growth, early stage startup
* Experience working for a social platform like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Tik Tok
* Some interest and/or experience in iOS frameworks such as SwiftUI
* Demonstrated growth of responsibility over time at one employer
