Job Description

### **About ngrok Inc.**

ngrok empowers developers to build for the internet. This involves a lot of
hard problems around networking, reliability, and performance. We build tools
for engineers in nearly every Fortune 500 company and are expanding our
offerings targeted at production workloads and use cases. And our customers
**love** us: <https://ngrok.com/love>.

Our employees are low-ego, curious learners with a passion for developer-first
tooling. We use our engineering values _**steward**_ , _**replenish**_ ,
**engineer** , and **be there** to guide our work. As a company, we set aside
an hour each fortnight for shared introspection about anxieties and
excitement, both personal and professional. We’re building an inclusive,
remote-first organization that sets each individual up to be their best self.

We believe the total addressable market for ngrok is in excess of $73 billion
and are increasing our growth to capture that.

### **The opportunity**

As an engineering manager you'll grow, manage, and coach a team of 5-7
software engineers. Your team will maintain and build on existing product
offerings to craft a new generation of capabilities for ngrok’s Observability
product.

A successful candidate views engineering management like a systems design
challenge with the wonderful chaos and humanity of working directly with
people. You will thrive on enabling your team's success, coaching junior and
senior folks alike, encouraging bold thinking and action, and growing with the
company. While you may not be in the code every day, our managers get into the
thick of it with their teams, utilizing past experience as engineers.

### What you’ll accomplish

Within **30 days**

* Review the 30/60/90 plan from your manager
* With your onboarding buddy, make your first commit and deploy
* Drive continuous learning and improvement with your team through execution, retrospection, and celebration
* Facilitate effective decision-making on the team by learning ngrok’s product, people, and how your team’s remit fits into the larger picture

Within **6 months**

* Drive sustainable success for the team by planning effectively each quarter- balancing product work, technical investments, and experiments
* Earn trust and build customer empathy by working regularly in an area of the codebase and engaging with our operations
* Enhance the capabilities of the team through continuous coaching, hiring a diverse and efficient team, and fostering psychological safety
* Empower great, local, team decisions, providing current business and product context

Within **1 year**

* Work with leadership to create and implement process around performance and organizational infrastructure
* Represent ngrok publicly: on our blog, speaking at meetups, via open-source contributions
* Be an engineering leader who contributes to a healthy and growing organizational culture

**Skills**

* 7+ years of experience as a software engineer using Go or other compiled languages
* 2+ years experience as a technical lead or engineering manager
* Excellent verbal, written, and engineering communication skills
* Experience building (process, tech, etc.) from scratch: e.g. at a startup or on a new team
* Bonus points
* External contributions to open source projects, conferences, or blogs
* Related domain knowledge in networking, auth, or security

All candidates must be US-based, and legally authorized to work in the United
States

### **Benefits**

Compensation for this role depends on level, but we provide a competitive mix
of salary and equity.

We provide a 401(k) with a 100% match up to 3% of your salary and a 50% match
up to another 2%.

We provide healthcare, dental, and vision with premiums fully covered on the
base plan for employees. Half of premiums are covered for dependents. We also
include long term disability, short term disability, and a term life policy at
no cost to employees.

We offer unlimited PTO and a culture in which the overwhelming majority of
employees take more than four weeks. Your manager will ensure you do the same.
