**Founding Backend Engineer (Senior or Staff level)**
You can expect to:
* Own the architecture, design, development and operations of server-side logic, databases, APIs, and other backend processes, and contribute to launching our first product from 0 to 1 that can handle heterogeneous sources of healthcare data at scale.
* Prototype, optimize, and maintain scalable back-end services that will power new ML and LLM model powered development workflows
* Optimize web applications for performance, speed, and scalability, ensuring fast load times and smooth user interactions. Write clean, well-structured, and maintainable code following best practices and coding standards. Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and collaborate with team members to improve code quality and maintainability.
* Design extensible and testable interfaces between internal services including the underlying storage and data models
* Be an engaged team player in a customer-focused cross-functional environment where you will feel excited to take on whatever is most impactful for the company and product
* Remote/hybrid-friendly but our engineering team expects in-person meetings 1-3 times a week in Bay Area Peninsula/South Bay Area.
**We look for:**
* Proficiency in Python, and extensive experience in API design and development (RestAPI, GraphQL), database technologies (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) and CI/CD.
* Solid understanding of responsive web design principles and best practices.
* Knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Strong understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
* Experience in delivering distributed and ML systems and services in a production setting for cloud-native applications
* Experience with distributed compute frameworks and data processing pipelines
* Ability to design and build efficient scalable data storage, compute, and retrieval systems for AI/ML tasks
* Preferably having experience working with ML systems and foundation models (e.g. large language models) and enterprise software products for machine learning and/or data science applications
* Located in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate
