Job Description

At Glacier, we are taking on one of the world’s most pressing problems: trash.
Did you know that in the US, we send over half of our recyclables to the
landfill? We're hoping to fix that. In doing so, we’ll also be reducing carbon
emissions, energy consumption, and depletion of natural resources.

Glacier builds custom sorting robots designed to sort apart recyclables as
well as AI-powered business analytics that enable recyclers to superpower
their plants and improve our society’s circularity. These two products
together are helping to divert tons of recyclables (literally!) from landfills
every day.

**About us:**

* We’re a small team based in San Francisco. Our founders come from Facebook engineering and Bain consulting. As an early member of the Glacier team, you’ll have a significant role in shaping our company’s future.
* We started Glacier to have a major positive environmental impact and we are searching for teammates who share in that mission.
* We’re backed by top-tier VCs and angels with extensive technical and industry expertise.
* We have several robots in production at customer sites and a robust pipeline of upcoming deployments.

**About the role:**

* We’re looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to establish, scale, then optimize all steps of our build processes as the company continues to grow, collaborating with ME, EE, and build teams as needed
* You will create and implement quality processes, including root causing failures and implementing corrective action plans
* As Glacier’s first manufacturing engineer, you will also collaborate with the Director of Deployment Operations and Engineering to figure out the future path of the manufacturing team

**Your responsibilities:**

* Establish manufacturing process flow diagrams that capture the current state of robot manufacturing. Use this documentation to set up systems, processes, and improved documentation for how Glacier manufactures robots.
* Design and establish production lines and stations to build robots, optimize material flow, and level load operations
* Develop a first iteration of Glacier’s QA/QC systems, including part dispositioning and an MRB system
* Integrate your own observations about our processes and feedback from the manufacturing team to develop process improvements and manufacturing jigs that improve manufacturability, reduce errors, and optimize cycle and task times
* Provide DFM feedback to the engineering team and implement design changes into manufacturing processes

**Minimum requirements:**

* Experience as a manufacturing engineer with prior experience with either or both of the following:
* Developed or been part of developing manufacturing processes from the ground up
* Previously set up a new production line
* Experience as a manufacturing engineer supporting products containing both hardware and software components
* Self-starter who can self-manage and proactively identify areas for continuous improvement
* Experience implementing lean manufacturing methodologies
* Experience using Solidworks (or similar 3D CAD software) to design jigs and fixtures
* Experience working with PDM, PLM, and ERP systems
* Strong ability to problem solve and drive issues to completion
* Flexibility to adapt in your role as Glacier’s manufacturing team grows

**Nice to have**
