Etsy’s Site Reliability Engineering team is seeking a Senior Site Reliability
Engineer I, to join us in our mission of building and supporting reliable
large scale infrastructure. The SRE team owns several aspects of business
critical infrastructure and services that enable developers to efficiently
build and deliver code as well as support the uptime of etsy.com. As an SRE at
Etsy, you’ll have the privilege of playing a support role for our developers
to help them leverage the infrastructure we build and manage as well as assume
ownership of a multitude of systems and ensure their reliability. You’ll get

##### **What does the day-to-day look like:**
* Design, develop and implement highly scalable and maintainable systems by contributing at all levels of our infrastructure stack using technologies like Chef, Terraform, GKE, GoLang, Prometheus, Consul.
* Work with the Engineering at large to gain a deep understanding of Etsy Engineering and how SRE can best support their needs (i.e product engineering, risk, database infrastructure teams, and understand up/downstream impacts).

* Support the day-to-day operations of running a large scale application, including monitoring, measuring, and troubleshooting infrastructure and services.
* Manage a wide variety of systems ranging from internal services to external services supporting millions of requests to etsy.com daily
* Continually automate away toil that can be burdensome for teams
* Develop automation and processes to enable teams to deploy, manage, configure, scale, and monitor their applications.
* Identify and implement application reliability and availability improvements
* Automating continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines, as well as supporting the underlying infrastructure.

##### **Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:**
* You are an experienced software engineer, where the last 5 years are in systems/infrastructure engineering or SRE or DevOps roles, preferably in a cloud environment.
* Proficiency with one or more programming languages (PHP, Python, Go, Ruby or other equivalent languages).
* Experience with cloud architectures (GCP, AWS), working with VM based architectures.
* Hands-on experience with Infrastructure As Code tooling like Terraform and configuration management tooling like Chef/Ansible is essential.
* Kubernetes or other container orchestration frameworks experience will be useful.
* Hands on debugging experience with Linux based operating systems
* You take the lead in directing and implementing solutions to significantly complex, unscoped problems.
* Have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work with and improve on code you did not originally write.
* You understand that being an effective software engineer is as much about communicating with people as it is about writing code.
