Cryptocurrency has come a long way since Bitcoin’s genesis block. This role
provides an opportunity to take charge of our newsmaking processes over the
weekend and update our readers on the latest developments from the crypto and
blockchain space.
The position is fully remote, but the successful applicant must be a native
speaker of English and be willing to work during the hours of 1am to 9am
Eastern Time. **The Investigations editor/writer** reports to the Managing
Editor and Editor-in-Chief.
**Core duties** :
1\. Write and manage production of investigative stories by other team
members.
2\. Ability to research and dig up data or inside scoops to develop stories
from scratch.
3\. Researching legal documents, blockchain data, financial reports to
discover clues.
4\. Strong skills in interviewing and building relationships with sources.
5\. Liaise with major companies, niche projects and stakeholders, conducting
interviews and source exclusive information.
6\. Use our in-house style guide (a slightly modified variant of AP style).
**Required qualifications** :
1\. Ability to learn on the fly and keep track of day-to-day news flow in a
quickly evolving industry.
2\. Understanding of best practices for social media copy.
3\. Deep knowledge of the cryptocurrency industry.
4\. Expert English writing and editing skills.
5\. Work well within a team and organization.
6\. Relevant bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of work experience.
7\. At least 2+ years of experience in investigative journalism with a proven
track record.
**Preferred qualifications** :
1\. Ability to work 5 days a week.
2\. Experience in reporting on breaking news.
3\. Experience in both working and publishing content without supervision.
4\. Non-English language skills are a plus, especially Chinese (Mandarin),
Spanish, Japanese or Russian.
