Censys knows the internet and cloud better than anyone else. Attack Surface
Management provides customers with an attacker-centric view of all externally
facing internet and cloud to extend visibility, prioritize, and remediate the
most critical risk exposures that will actually lead to a breach. Our daily
IPv4 scans and the world’s largest SSL/TLS Certificate database enables
customers with the most accurate and continuously updated attack surfaces.
Enterprise security teams leverage Censys to keep pace with the speed of the
business and gain an advantage on the rapidly evolving cyber-attack threats.

**_This is a hybrid role; new hire must be located within driving distance of
McLean, VA._**

**Role Summary:**

Security researchers have a strong technical background and excel at creative
problem solving. You rely on your expertise to guide your approach to
investigations, including generating your own research ideas. You’ll be
working on Federal research projects that are aligned with Censys’ longer term
strategy and executing on ideas with a pace that pushes the company forward.

One week you might perform detailed analysis of hosts vulnerable to a
particular CVE, and the next week you may be asked to investigate the
internet-wide footprint of an emerging C2 framework. You'll have the
opportunity to hunt through the most robust internet-wide scan data available,
documenting your findings to share with the broader security community through
blogs and talks.

**On a day-to-day basis, you’ll: **

* Research security issues and work with Customers or Marketing to share research results; produce finished intelligence reports and support intelligence briefings
* Partner with Engineering and Product to deliver new security prototypes to customers as well as to guide where we should develop new product
* Serve as a public face for Censys by sharing knowledge and expertise around how vulnerabilities and internet-wide security trends impact our customers across the public and private sectors, as well as the broader global security community
* Track recent events within the security industry and global politics; monitor key developments across classified and OSINT sources
* Conduct threat hunts across Censys’ internet-wide scan data; identify, track, and perform analysis on potentially malicious infrastructure
* Complete one-off research projects on an as-needed basis

**Required qualifications:**

* Active TS/SCI Clearance
* 5+ years experience in cybersecurity, with preference for experience in an operational or research role (e.g., security analyst, engineer)
* A strong understanding of networking and security principles, including knowledge of network tools (e.g., nmap, Wireshark) and common security vulnerabilities

**Desired Qualifications: **

* Working knowledge of data formats, querying large datasets, and performing aggregations and analysis using SQL
* Experience performing computational data analysis (e.g., extracting data from APIs and using your programming language of choice to analyze it); familiarity with Jupyter notebooks
* Familiarity with analytic tradecraft and intelligence analysis
* Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex technical and non-technical concepts
* Past experience speaking at industry events, or strong desire to build this skillset
* Outstanding organizational and time management skills
* A passion and curiosity for continuous learning
* Experience using Censys Search
* Familiarity with internet scanning techniques
* Familiarity with Windows, iOS, Android, or MacOS malware analysis
* Knowledge of statistical and machine learning techniques

_Our target salary range for this role is between $170,000 USD and $185,000
USD + bonus eligibility and equity._
