### Job Description
We’re on the lookout for a Lead Engineer / Technical Head of Product who
thrives on innovation and is passionate about bridging the gap between
platform and firmware teams. This role is for a "founding" engineer profile,
eager to dedicate 80-90% of their time to developing cutting-edge platform
technologies that interface seamlessly with firmware/IoT. While some
experience in HealthTech / HealthIT is beneficial, we value agility and the
spirit of rapid development.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Report directly to the CEO to develop and collaborate to own the comprehensive technology strategy and product roadmap, from ideation to implementation to maintenance.
* Lead by example with a hands-on approach to development, demonstrating what high-performance engineering looks like—prioritizing swift execution, high-quality output, and the strategic scrapping or pivoting of projects as market and internal dynamics evolve.
* Serve as the cross-functional engineering lead. Spearhead the development and integration of our platform with firmware/IoT, creating seamless, cutting-edge solutions for health data collection and analysis.
* Champion a culture of excellence and urgency, where rapid iteration, direct feedback, and clear, objective assessment of project viability and team performance are the norms. Empower the team to transition responsibilities and pivot strategies to maintain momentum and innovation.
* Foster an environment of continuous learning, collaboration, and high standards.
* Navigate the complexities of healthcare technology with a solution-oriented mindset, pushing the boundaries of what's possible to enhance patient care and outcomes.
**Key Technical Challenges:**
* Simplifying EHR Connectivity: You'll work on implementing new features to better integrate with EPIC and interface engines to reduce the time and resources involved for Health Systems to adopt Stel. We’re paving the road as the first solution to integrate with accepting PHI from customers.
* Platform Features: Constantly add new features aimed at unburdening and exciting clinicians.
* Innovating Bluetooth Connectivity: Transforming Bluetooth from a firmware-level protocol to a cloud-based protocol, broadening our device compatibility and ease of integration.
* OS Development: Challenging the status quo by making our OS more attractive to device manufacturers than traditional options like iOS/Android, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in HealthIoT.
**Ideal Candidate Profile:**
* Proven track record as an early-stage startup engineer or in a similar leadership role, with a passion for building and scaling innovative technology solutions in a fast-paced Startup environment that has made it past Series-A.
* Exceptional problem-solving skills, with an innate ability to navigate complex technical and organizational challenges. A strategic thinker who can make tough decisions and act on them with confidence and authority.
* We're seeking leaders who, driven by a commitment to excellence, step into management roles to guide our team to achieve what others cannot—mirroring the passion and vision of the greatest innovators.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex concepts into clear, understandable terms.
* Understands good security + privacy standards/design.
* Experience in the HealthTech or IoT space is a plus
* Background in HealthIT would be a plus but is not required. Understanding HealthTech Architecture terms and standards is a strong preference, but can be taught.
**Technical Proficiencies:**
You'll bring a deep understanding of our core tech stack, including AWS,
Django, and React, and ideally have experience with IoT and healthcare
integrations.
Required Experience:
* Infrastructure & Deployment: Experience with Terraform and Docker for designing robust CI/CD pipelines.
* Backend Development: Proficiency in REST APIs and web application development, with Python + Django expertise.
* Frontend Development: Skilled in React, capable of delivering intuitive and responsive web interfaces.
* Cloud Services: Extensive AWS experience, including but not limited to S3, EC2, DynamoDB, and IAM Policies, to ensure scalability and security of our services.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
* Healthcare Integration: Familiarity with EHR/Interface Engines like MirthConnect, CloverLeaf, Intersystems, Bridges, and EPIC Showroom/API connects, enhancing our ability to integrate seamlessly with healthcare systems.
* IoT and Embedded Systems: Experience with AWS IoTCore, FOTA, MQTT, FleetManagement, and understanding of RTOS, wireless protocols, system integration (e.g., Matter, Sidewalk, Mesh), and tools such as Ghidra, IDAPro, Wireshark.
* Hardware Development: Knowledge of hardware development processes and manufacturing steps to register, and provision inventory.
* Experience with AWS ECS (Dockerize) and GuardDuty for threat detection and system security.
